For locals, Baranya kulen represents a source of pride and a symbol of prosperity; a delicacy people have always enjoyed on special occasions. The recipe and the secret of its preparation have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries.
From selecting the finest cuts of pork, preparing the filling, stuffing it in a natural casing to smoking the product, each piece of Baranya kulen is made by hand. After several months’ maturation, Baranya kulen gets its well-known appearance and flavour, greatly appreciated among lovers of piquant flavours and among those who value heritage and origin of a product.
Baranya kulen bears the protected geographical indication “DOP” of the European Union.
